State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)

To provide free and objective counseling and assistance to persons with questions or problems regarding Medicare, TennCare and other related health insurances.

Eligibility

Assistance is provided to the general public who calls the Toll-Free Statewide number: 1-877-801-0044.

Explanation of Services

SHIP is a statewide program operating through the state’s nine Area Agencies on Aging & Disability (AAADs). By calling the toll-free number, callers can talk to a SHIP counselor closest to the area in which the caller lives. Counselors work to give accurate and helpful information regarding Medicare and other related health insurances. In the event the counselors are unable to solve a problem, the caller is provided with referral to other resources.

Source of Funding

The Tennessee Commission on Aging & Disability provides funding through a grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Medicare agency of the federal government.
