Violence Intervention Program

The purpose of the Violence Intervention Program is to provide a comprehensive program to youth and adults to stop family violence. The program is focused on victim safety and perpetrator accountability and responsibility. The Violence Intervention program is devoted to providing affordable psycho educational programming within a client’s community.

Eligibility

Clients are accepted on a volunteer basis or through referrals from employee assistant professionals, mental health centers, and department of human services, pastors, medical professionals and the court. There can be no active conflict between participants that wish to attend in the same location. Client fees fund the programs.

  2. Promote and provide community training and education to prevent violence.
  3. Serve as a resource on family violence and anger management for the community.

Explanation of Services

The Edward Byrne Grant provides funding to administrate a comprehensive local service through out east Tennessee. Referrals are accepted or a client may volunteer. The programs offered are:

  • Anger Management – An 8 week psycho educational approach to anger, its origins, consequences, behavioral suggestions for modification.
  • Youth Anger Management – A twelve-hour program that addresses alternatives to the day-to-day violence that face youth today. An open forum for the individual’s needs to be discussed.
  • Family Violence Intervention - Ten 2-hour programs aimed at individuals who are engaged in abusive behavior. Clients are monitored closely for compliance. The program concentrates on recognizing abusive behavior, alternatives to violence, the effect of abuse on children, and anger as it relates to the use of power and control in relationships. The material is taught through group lectures, interactive exercises, and videos.
  • Domestic Violence Intervention – An intense program that includes a one-week orientation and 24 additional classes. Using client interaction and facilitation, promote an in-depth study of accountability and responsibility for the problem caused by abusive behavior. The program is geared to assist the client in recognizing the cycle of violence and stopping it. Groups are smaller and client participation is encouraged.

Number of Persons Served

Within the seventeen counties served the programs breakdown as follows: Anger Management 210 clients, Youth Anger Management 75 clients, Family Violence Intervention 961 clients, Domestic Violence Intervention 230 clients. Through the community education / speakers program over 500 youth and adults participated in ETHRA VIP presentations. The Victim Empowerment program is presently conducted in one county and has served 20 women since its inception.

Source of Funding

Client fees fund the cost of the program. A Byrne Formula Grant has been awarded to subsidize the administration of the program.

Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Hawkins, Hancock, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Morgan, Monroe, Roane, Scott, Sevier and Union.
